Health advisory issued for four area lakes

A health advisory is in effect for lakes at four Nebraska state recreation areas, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission said.
During tests last week, the state Department of Environmental Quality detected high levels of toxic algae at Rockford Lake in Gage County, Swan Creek Lake No. 5A at Willard L. Meyer Recreation Area in Saline County and at Pawnee Lake in Lancaster County Lake visitors are advised to avoid full-body contact activities such as swimming, wading, skiing, jet skiing, etc., in the affected lakes
Brownville’s Old Time Autumn festival features reopening of historic land office

The first of three preservation projects by the Brownville Historical Society will be unveiled during the village’s Old Time Autumn festival Saturday.
The society will reopen the historic land office, which has been turned into a museum, during a 10 a.m. ceremony. The event will feature refreshments, music and speakers. Visitors can tour the museum from 1 to 5 p.m.
Living history exhibitions, blacksmith and other craft demonstrations, cruises on the Missouri River on the Spirit of Brownville, artist displays, and pony and trolley rides are some of the festival attractions.
