1999- Testimony begins wrapping up in the Justice Department’s antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft.

1997 -The Air Force releases a report on the “Roswell Incident,” suggesting that witnesses who thought they saw alien bodies in New Mexico in 1947 really saw life-sized dummies.

1992- Singer Billy Joel receives his high school degree from Hicksville High School on Long Island, New York.  He missed the first time around in 1967 due to missed English and gym credits.

1990- Anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela arrives in Washington as he continues his U-S tour.

1987- Actor Jackie Gleason dies at the age of 71.

1979- Anita Ward tops the Billboard charts with the hit, “Ring My Bell.”

1975- 113 people die when an Eastern Airlines plane crashes while trying to land at New York’s J-F-K Airport in a thunderstorm.

1970- Fonzie hits the air as the hit T-V show “Happy Days” premeires

1969- Henry Mancini’s hit “Love Theme” from “Romeo and Juliet” is number one.

1949- The western series “Hopalong Cassidy” premieres on T-V.

1948- The Soviets block off Berlin, leading to a massive airlift of food and supplies known as the Berlin Airlift.

1940- France signs an armistice with Italy during World War Two.

1930- Radar is used to detect planes for the first time in Anacostia, D-C

1908- President Grover Cleveland dies in Princeton, New Jersey at the age of 71.

1898- The Rough Riders win the first land battle at Las Guasimas, Cuba.
